First time Cutting my lawn with a restored Bob-A-Lawn Lawnmower, powered by a Johnson Iron Horse AR472, 5/8 HP Engine. The mower is a Bob-A-Lawn Junior 18" made by Glen Purvis Enterprises in London, Ontario CANADA. The deck is an aluminum casting from Alcan, which has the gas tank molded in. The Engine was made by Johnson in Peterborough, Canada during 1947.

This is an Air-Cooled vacuum engine designed by Dr. J.R.Senft. I found the plans in the November 1980 edition of Live Steam. I built this over the last few months and it is fun to watch it run. It is lubricated with Extra Fine Graphite powder to lessen friction. The fuel in the copper burner is alcohol.

I got this engine recently for $20 at a Flee-Market. I was originaly going to use this for parts, but when I got it home I decided to try to get it to run. This engine was left outside for many years and was in bad shape. The rings where seized, as was the exhaust valve. After some WD-40 and a few hours work, it fired up. It actually runs pretty good and starts second pull.

Johnson Chore Horse Generator CH27-1

This is old army generator made by Johnson in the 1940's. It has two outputs: 110AC@460W and 6VDC@200W. This unit was not used that much and I only had to un-stick the exhaust valve to get it to run. The engine is a 500 series with 1HP.
